In the period 23rd-26th October 2019, the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi, hosts the General Assembly of the World Medical Association. At a personal invitation from the President of the WMA – Prof. Leonid Aidelman, who was a month ago on a visit in Bulgaria, as an official guest at the Tenth International Medical Congress of the Southeast European Medical Forum, and the Secretary-General of the WMA – Dr. Otmar Kloiber, Assoc. Prof. Andrey Kehayov is the only representative of the Bulgarian medical community in the global forum. The General Assembly of the WMA is held in cooperation with the Georgian Medical Association whose President – Prof. Gia Lobzahanidze is a Vice-President of SEEMF, as well.
The agenda of the meeting includes plenary meetings of the WMA’s Councils and workshop meetings of the Finance and Planning Committee, the Social Medical Affairs Committee and the Medical Ethics Committee. All committees will present their reports on the activities undertaken until this meeting. During the Annual General Assembly issues related to the ethical aspects of euthanasia and physician assisted suicide, medical ethics in sports medicine, violence against health professionals, pseudoscience and pseudo therapies performed by people without medical education and other topics will be discussed.
Parallel to the annual Assembly meeting a scientific session on “Palliative Care – For the Implementation of International Standards of Palliative Care” is organized. Issues related to palliative care for children, palliative care development on a global scale and the psychological aspects of the palliative care will be matter of discussion.
Within the General WMA General Assembly, Assoc. Prof. Andrey Kehayov will hold bilateral meetings with the President of the World Medical Association – Prof. Leonid Eidelman and the Secretary General – Dr. Otmar Kloyber, with the President of the Standing Committee of European Doctors – Prof. Dr. Frank Montgomery, with representatives of the European Forum of Medical Associations and with the leaders and members of the Medical Associations of Europe, USA, Russia, Asia and others.
Up-to-date information on the progress of the committees’ work, the resolutions voted and the decisions taken by the WMA will be additionally provided.
