At a personal invitation from the Secretary-General ofthe World MedicalAssociation – Dr. Otmar Kloeber, Assoc. Prof. Dr Andrey Kehayov, President of the Southeast European Medical Forum, is the Bulgarian participant in the regular World Medical Association 209th Council SessionRiga, Latvia, 26-29 April 2018.
The agenda of the two-days Plenary Council Session includes workshop meetings of theFinance and Planning Committee, The Socio-Medical Affairs Committee and The Medical Ethics Committee of the World Medical Association. All Committees will present their reports on the activities undertaken in 2017. The Finance and Planning Committee will present the financial report of WMA for the year of 2017 and will put to vote the dates and venues for the 72nd General Assembly that will be held in October 2021 and the 218th and 221st Session of the CMA Council respectively in April 2021 and April 2022. Health Migration, Health and the Environment are a few more of the topics addressed during the first day of the 209th Council Session of WMA. Representatives of the Israeli Medical Association addressed the need to establish a regulation regarding the medical tourism on a worldwide scale and presented their proposal, which was accepted by the delegates.
“Gender Equality in Medicine” became the title of a WMA statement, which will be made public after the end of the session. In the next days the questions related to the professional autonomy of the medical profession and the self-regulation of the physicians, the medical ethics and morality of the medical profession, and the medical cognitions causing therapeutic abortions will be discussed.
Within the WMA 209th Council Session, Assoc.Prof.Dr.Andrey Kehayov will hold bilateral meetings with the President of the World Medical Association – Dr. Yokokura and the Secretary General – Dr. Otmar Kloyber, with the President of the Standing Committee of European Doctors – Dr. Jacques de Haller, with members and representatives of the European Medical Association Forum and with the leaders and members of the Medical Associations from Europe, USA, Russia, China and others.
